Sheldon Brown 1944 - 2008

About 7 years ago I was working night shifts at CSC. I was working on the helpdesk getting more and more out of shape and craving some kind of activity. I had a few broken down bikes. Like most people I was good at taking them apart but not really good at putting them back. Well being tha I worked four ten hour shifts in the middle of the night I put the internet to work for me looking for infor on bikes and bike parts and how to fix bikes. It turned up Sheldon Brown. This was a huge wealth of knowledge and still is. For the last seven years everytime I need information on a part or an assembly or even if I jsut want an inspirational look into a lifetime tinkerer I would visit Sheldons website. I would pour over the pages for hoursw at time. Following links and learning so much. I gained an appreciation fortheenglish 3 speed and fixed geared bicycles. I read about his travels his family. I came quite familiar with the man. I always wanted to go to West Newton and buy a bike from Sheldon. .... That will now never happen. My thoughts and prayers go to his family. From my internet glimpse into the man I can only begin to imagine the enormity of their loss.

Good Bye to the teacher I never met but fealt I knew.
